Well for those such as myself who were waiting for news on a possible second season of Terra Nova, looks like the news is in and it isn’t good. The show has been cancelled by Fox….
“Fox took a “big swing” and missed. The network has opted not to move forward with a second season of its Steven Spielberg time-travel drama Terra Nova.
The news comes as Fox has an increased roster of hourlong dramas, including J.J. Abrams’ Alcatrazand Kiefer Sutherland-Tim Kring’s Touch, and heavy hype surrounding its drama development. Given Terra Nova’s international appeal, however, its studio, 20th Century Fox TV, will attempt to shop the big-budget series to other networks.
While the pricey dinosaur series averaged 7.5 million total viewers and 2.6 million in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo in its 11-episode first season, it failed to catch on the way the network had hoped. Its two-hour finale matched a series low in the demo, drawing a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 and an audience of 7.2 million.”
The full report at THR also speculates that the series will be shopped to other networks. SyFy seems like it would be a perfect fit for a sci-fi series such as Terra Nova, however as one of the more expensive productions on network television, it does call into question whether a network such as SyFy could maintain the expensive budget and production values.
What are your thoughts? Did you follow Terra Nova? Were you a fan? Would you follow a hypothetical 2nd season to a new network?
Tonight is the season finale of Terra Nova. No official word yet on a second season or not, if you’ve been watching the show every week then you know leading up to tonight there are a ton of questions to be answered and probably a whole lot more that will be presented going into a hypothetical second season. Before you sit down to watch the finale tonight on FOX, check out what executive producers Rene Echevarria & Brannon Braga have to say about the show as they talk everything Terra Nova.

With The Walking Dead season 2 getting underway a few hours ago….or depending on when you are reading this, last night, it is safe to say that the Horror-TV season is in full effect and will be pretty jam packed with shows and series for the remainder of 2011. Despite all the shows currently airing, we still have NBC’s Grimm, Bag of Bones, as well as Chiller’s original movie, Remains, among many more that I have probably failed to mention.
That said, I want to know what you, the visitors of the site and listeners of the podcast think about all the returning series and new shows. It doesn’t matter if you enjoy ’em, hate ’em, want to pick certain elements apart regarding them. I am all for your feedback no matter what your opinions are, and I’d love to feature all of your thoughts in an upcoming episode of the podcast.
You can do something as simple as leave a reply on this topic below, email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org or you can be even more bold and record your comments in audio form and send them to the same email and I will play them during the show.
With the audience of the podcast growing slowly but surely, I am always interested to get the pulse of the audience as to what they are watching and what they want to discuss. So speak up and be a part of an upcoming episode of the podcast!

In today’s episode we get into the first couple episodes of Terra Nova, as well as our thoughts on the season premiere of Dexter season 6. I also comment on the 2002 remake of Carrie briefly, and we give a little sneak peak into our thoughts on American Horror Story which we will be getting into more extensively on the next episode once a couple more episodes have aired! I also threw together a new intro for the show so don’t freak out when the familiar beginning doesn’t start up after pressing play!

Tonight the second episode of Terra Nova will air on Fox @ 8pm. If you follow me on twitter ( @EvilEpisodes ) you will know from my brief tweets that I did enjoy the pilot and for now I am fully onboard with the show. (Much more thoughts on the first 2 episodes of Terra Nova coming up on Evil Episodes Podcast #7, btw….) With that said, the pilot did stuff so much plot and storyline into the two hours that it did leave a vacuum of questions for viewers. TVLine asked “10 burning questions” some of which includes some changes that were made to the pilot episode. Check out some of the interview below:
“WHAT ELSE CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL EDIT OF THE PILOT? | Imagine that the series started with Jim en route to Hope Plaza to collect his mysterious knapsack. Then, once the family exits the wormhole and Taylor’s guards go to slit open Jim’s parcel, that is when you first learn about Zoe. TWist! Instead, the for-broadcast pilot showed how years earlier the Shannons labored to hide Zoe in their home, and clued us in on Jim’s plan to escape prison. “Some of the feedback we got [on the previous version] was, ‘I really like it, but it starts a little choppy,’” Fox president Kevin O’Reilly explained this summer at TCA. “[The added back story] filled out the characters a little better, and when we screened it to multiple contingencies, I heard a lot of feedback from people who preferred it.” Another tweak involved smoothing over a suggestion of larger discord between Jim and Elisabeth. “There’s still some marital tension there, but yeah, it was a little darker,” says O’Mara, “which I’m not sure is the direction they wanted to go. It was more about reshifting the focus of the show toward the mythology.”
WHEN WILL WE GET THE SIXERS’ NUMBER? |Echevarria says that light will be shed on the rebel faction as the show occasionally spends time at their well-guarded outpost. Over the course of this first season, “You’re going to find out why they’re here, who sent them, and what they’re about — and that climaxes with the arrival of the 11th pilgrimage.”
WHAT IS TAYLOR’S MIA SON DRAWING ON THE ROCKS? | “You only have to wait a couple episodes to find out what those sketchings are all about,” says O’Mara. In fact, as a general rule, Terra Nova ” is going to make sure that with all the questions, even though they’re a carrot on a stick, you only need a couple episodes to find out what’s going on. We’re being very conscious to create a show that yes, has mystery as a part of it, but we’re not going to have huge questions dangling.”
