Ever since the first screenshot of Telltale’s upcoming Walking Dead video game was released months ago, everyone has been chomping at the bit for more details. Well that day has finally come. The Walking Dead game has an official website located here: http://www.telltalegames.com/walkingdead/page1
And a web series entitled Playing Dead that goes behind the scenes of making the game: Offical Synopsis is as follows:
“Learn about the game by watching PLAYING DEAD, a video series that takes you behind the scenes of the creation of the upcoming The Walking Dead video game based on Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic series. Playing Dead is the online source for exclusive looks at The Walking Dead video game and interviews with the talent responsible for bringing the world of The Walking Dead to life. ”
It is becoming commonplace for successful video game franchise from last-gen to give their games an HD reboot for the current gen systems such as the PS3 & 360 to help get some more life out of them as well as promote the upcoming release of new installments in the franchise. We’ve seen it with God of War & Resident Evil. The latest is Silent Hill which will include Silent Hill 2 & 3 in the collection. Silent Hill while also survivial horror, is very different from the more action-oriented Resident Evil franchise. Silent Hill relies more on atmosphere and creepy lighting as an example. Check out the trailer for the HD collection below:
Silent Hill HD collection will be available on March 6th just in time to get in some playing time before Silent Hill Downpour is released a week later on March 13th!
Looks like the longest running survival-horror franchise is finally taking steps to change with the times. We’ve already heard from various reports that run-and-gun will now be included in gameplay, however from the looks of this new character trailer, Resident Evil: Raccoon City will also have multiplayer modes.
Is this something you are pining for as a fan of the series? Do you think this will turn any long time fans of the series off, or help to bring new gamers in?
Uncharted has to be one of my favorite new game franchises. The first one was released a bit under the radar, but eventually caught on, while Uncharted 2: Among Theives was my pick for GOTY. I haven’t had a chance to delve into the third installment just yet but reviews from reviewers/critics & fans alike have me feeling it will be another fun time. Now comes the news that Naughty Dog has a survival-horror game in the works titled “The Last of Us”
In fact there is a trailer for it just released at the Video Game awards last night. Check it, along with the official synopsis for the game, after the jump!
One of the coolest thing about the horror genre is the sense of community and comradeship between different artists and creators. Apparently the makers of Dead Island are no different, and snuck in this cool Easter egg into the game which appears to be a replica of Jason Voorhees, including his home and for your troubles of tracking this all down, a brand new shiny chainsaw to mow down zombies with. Check out the video of how to find him, kill him, and get the chainsaw below:
Sorry there is no code to morph into the 1984 Robert Englund version of Freddy Krueger (yet!) However, if you need a little help mastering the Bastard Son of 1000 Maniac’s move-set, check out the video below courtesy of the team at G4!
Vodpod videos no longer available.
Smooth moves, eh? That tutorial should get you off to a good start kicking some ass as the legendary Freddy Krueger. The character is available on PS3 for $5 and the 360, for the equivalent in Microsoft points!
My latest piece for TRULYDISTURBING is up. Not sure if you you would consider this a retro review considering the game came out in 2009, however with all the horror related games coming out in the last quarter of 2011, allow me to make a case on why you should go back and check out Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition if you haven’t yet. Preview a chunk of the review below:
“The Resident Evil series is known for thrilling action, and tense cut scenes. Resident Evil 5 doesn’t disappoint in this department. The cut scenes will vary depending on your situation. Sometimes they offer a bit of relief when the situation seems to become over-bearing, other times you think you have the upper-hand and que to a bigger, badder enemy coming to join in on the fun. The action is no different. If you are a Resident Evil regular you know it comes with it’s own legacy style of the stop-and-shoot 3rd person variety. There is no running & gunning in this universe. Some gamers are turned off by this aspect, however I feel it offers a nice change to the pace of other games in the survival horror genre. It also adds to the tense moments and anxiety you will feel when thrust into scenarios involving the enemies.”
